Monsignor James E. O'Malley Monsignor James E. O'Malley passed away on May 28, 2012 surrounded by family, friends and the loving sisters and staff of Nazareth House in San Rafael, California. Monsignor O'Malley was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Genevieve, stepmother Winifred, brothers Frank (Debbie), Joseph (Mary), sister Patricia O'Leary (Jack), brother-in-law Tim Twomey, nephews James (Kathy), John, niece Mary Twomey Landtbom and niece-in-law Wanda O'Malley. He is survived by his sister Mary Cecile Twomey, nephews Vincent (Lisa), Frank (Charlene), Thomas (Mary), Gregory, Kevin (Patrice), Daniel Twomey, Patricia Schwehr (Edward.) Monsignor O'Malley is also survived by numerous great nephews, great nieces and one great-great niece and cousins and relatives in the Bay Area and the Irish Counties of Mayo, Galway and Limerick. After graduating from St. Paul's Grammar School and St. Joseph's College, Mt. View he attended St. Patrick's Seminary and was ordained July 15, 1946 by Archbishop John J. Mitty. He was assigned to St. Gregory's Parish, San Mateo and after 10 years of service to St. Patrick's Church, San Jose where he served until 1961. From there he was appointed to St. Michael's Church, San Francisco where he ministered for another 6 years. In October 1967 he was appointed Pastor at Saint Kevin Church in San Francisco. Father retired from Saint Kevin Parish in 1993 after 26 years as pastor, and then lived at Saint Anthony Parish in Novato for the next 15 years until his move in early 2008 to Nazareth House in San Rafael. On June 28, 2010, shortly after celebrating his 64th year of ordination, he was named a Prelate of Honor to His Holiness with the title of Monsignor. In his leisure time, he enjoyed his home in Boyes Hot Springs, Sonoma, CA which he fondly called "Banshee Cottage". Friends may visit at 3:00pm on Sunday, June 3, 2012 and are invited to attend a Vigil Service at 4:00pm at Saint Kevin Church, 704 Cortland Ave., SF. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 4th, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1000 Cambridge Street, Novato. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Nazareth House, 245 Nova Albion Way, San Rafael, CA 94903 or St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1000 Cambridge Street, Novato, CA 94947 preferred. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
