Obituary Condolences

Dr. William "Bill" Bird Febuary 20, 1934 - July 18, 2012 Dr. William "Bill" Bird passed away at his ranch in Glen Ellen, CA on July 18, 2012 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born to Frederick and Alice Bird in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His wife, Doni, daughter Jennifer, and sons David, Keith, Jon; nine grandchildren; his sister Blanche Burroughs, nephew Mike Burroughs, Chris Landry and sister-in-law Pamela Landry, all survive him. Dr Bird received his dental degree from Loyala University in 1961 and later attained both a master's and a doctorate degree in the US Public Health Service for 23 years. On a national/ international level he served on foundation boards supporting infection control for dental offices and institutions globally. Dr. Bird served on the faculty of the UCSF School of Dentistry for the past 22 years. Following his retirement, he returned on a part-time recall as a Health Sciences Clinical Professor Emeritus to assist with special projects in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences. His passion for teaching and helping others extended well beyond dentistry. He was also an accomplished pilot and flight instructor with commercial ratings in single and multi-engine aircraft and hot air balloons. He served as the assistant director of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. At the time of his passing, he had reached the one star instructor level in the Parelli Natural Horsemanship program and had planned to begin instructing in the Parelli Program after retirement. Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of his life at Duggan's Mission Chapel, 525 West Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476, on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 1:00 PM.
