TODD SHINTO Obituary

Todd Kazumori Shinto
Feb. 7, 1964 - Aug. 19, 2012
Todd Shinto passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 19th at his home in Daly City with his family at his side. Todd was born in Los Angeles on February 7th, 1964, to Henry Morita Shinto and Gloria Eiko Nomura, the third of four children. Todd grew up in Los Angeles, graduating from University High School and attending Santa Monica City College. Todd met his wife Amy Eyles in San Francisco and they were married in 2003 in Great Falls, Montana. They lived in Great Falls for eleven years and during this time had two beautiful children, Benjamin Mori Shinto and Sarah Sakura Shinto. Todd was an arborist and landscape designer, a profession that reflected his love of living plants and nature. He held a 3rd degree black belt in Aikido and was a certified Aikido Instructor. In Montana, he was the Chief Instructor of Great Falls Aikido and was dedicated to training children and adolescents in the non-violent discipline of Aikido known as the "way of harmonious spirit". Todd and his family moved from Great Falls, Montana to Daly City California in July 2012. The move was inspired by his desire to be closer to family and also to reestablish the children's program at the Aikido Institute of San Francisco, where his mother Gloria Nomura is the founder and Chief Instructor.
Todd was passionate about fishing, surfing, wood carving, being outdoors in nature, cooking, and music. Todd gave back to others with his generous spirit and our hearts are forever touched by his love.
Todd Shinto is survived by his wife, Amy Eyles, who was the principal flutist with the Great Falls Symphony Orchestra and member of the Chinook Winds for eleven years; son, Benjamin Shinto; daughter Sarah Shinto; mother, Gloria Nomura; sisters, Lynne Shinto and Karen Shinto; brother, Barry Shinto; and many extended family members and friends.
To celebrate Todd's life, family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 2:00 PM on August 26th, 2012, at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA 94014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Hospice, In Memory of Todd Shinto, 670 North McCarthy Blvd., Suite 220, Milpitas, CA 95035.
