Grace North Young Grace passed away at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Riverside, Ca. Grace graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1936 and UCLA in 1940 and worked for the War Department at the Pentagon as an Executive Secretary from 1941-1942. She married the love of her life Sidney H. Young Jr., a 1942 West Point graduate, deceased. They were stationed in Japan as part of the Occupation Forces after WWII. In 1950, the family was relocated to the Presidio of San Francisco via Ft. Knox. Grace taught at Frank McCoppin Elementary (grades 3-6) from 1954-1984. After retiring, Grace enjoyed traveling around the country with her family, gardening, reading, and attending church with her dear friends. She was predeceased by her son Sidney H. Young, III, and survived by her daughter Barbara Y. Ruth (Michael), her grandchildren Michael F. Ruth, and Beverly J. Tackitt (Brett), and her three great-grandchildren, Garran, Lee (Danielle), and Amanda Tackitt. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 321 Taraval St., San Francisco on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Covenant Presbyterian, Church.
