Mary Jo (de Roulhac) Pace
Mary Jo Pace, daughter of Kathryn Draper and Joseph de Roulhac, was born in Fresno, California, November 9, 1925. She grew up in Phoenix and spent her summers in Nashville with her maternal aunts Bessie, Mamie and Ollie. Those pleasant days gave her a great appreciation for Southern hospitality, which she brought to her life in California as the wife of noted U.C. Berkeley scientist, Nello Pace.
Mary Jo attended UCLA, where she was a popular member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and throughout her life she remained in contact with several sorority sisters.
Mary Jo's brother Joseph G. de Roulhac and his wife, Dianne, visited often from their home in Santa Barbara. In addition, Mary Jo had two step-daughters, Cindy and Susan, and step-grandchildren Carla and Dino Rossi, along with niece Claire de Roulhac and nephews Paul and Nicholas de Roulhac. Her cousin Hugues de Roulhac lives in France and another cousin, Libby Roulac, lives in San Rafael.
In Mary Jo's memory, donations may be made to the North Berkeley Public Library.
