On April 15, 2013, in San Francisco at age 89. Beloved daughter of the late David and Annie Morse, she was also predeceased by her brothers Bertram and Milton Morse. Ms. Morse is survived by several cousins in California, New York, and Florida. She was a mentor, guide, and inspiration to her many younger cousins and in recent years served as the much beloved unofficial head of the extended family.
Ms. Morse was born in San Francisco on December 11, 1923. She graduated from Lowell High School and the University of California, Berkeley from which she also received a degree as Master of Public Health and studied at Berkeley Law School, Boalt Hall. Ms. Morse's professional life spanned thirty-nine years in which she was an admired professional organizer and fundraiser for voluntary and non-profit agencies on the local, state, and national level in Oakland, San Jose, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. Some of the agencies for which she worked include The Mental Health Association, The American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross National Headquarters. After the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, she was persuaded to come out of retirement in order to assist the American Red Cross Bay Area in emergency fundraising. Since 1998, Ms. Morse resided at The Sequoias, San Francisco where she remained instrumental in support of the programs and services that enhanced the lives of all the residents.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Eternal Home Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Red Cross, Bay Area Chapter, would be kindly appreciated.
