Barry Stubbs Obituary

Barry Stubbs

Barry was born February 12, 1920 in Monroe, Louisiana and passed September 2, 2013, in San Mateo, CA. He was a descendant of a prominent Louisiana family which settled in Monroe in 1842. He was the son of Louise Maude Flower Stubbs and Francis Palmer Stubbs, a Louisiana lawyer.

He graduated from Webb School in Bellbuckle, TN, Yale University and Stanford Law School. In 1944, he enlisted and while serving in the Corp of Engineers in Southern California met Dorothy Wasson, the love of his life, at a military dance. They married six weeks later, and upon separating from the service, settled in Palo Alto, Calif.

Upon graduation from law school in 1948, Barry worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco and in 1952 opened his law practice in Stonestown. Over the span of 61 years, Barry brought his two sons, Gregory and Brian into his practice as partners.

Barry and Dorothy's marriage was truly one of soul mates, lasting nearly 54 years. In addition to his law practice, they loved investing in and improving real property together in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Barry loved animals and spent his leisure time raising and training horses at his ranch in the Napa mountains. In his late 60's Barry became a certified scuba diver, and at the age of 82 climbed Half Dome in Yosemite.

He was a true Southern gentleman and treated others with courtesy and respect. His legacy as an attorney includes being an ardent advocate, fair minded, honest and compassionate. As a student of life and a long time student of The Rodan Foundation he had a lifelong pursuit of truth.

He is survived by his sons, Gregory (Stephanie) Brian (Judee), and daughter, Sarah Carraway (Clarke) and granddaughters Cameron, Torrey, Marissa, Corrine (Gregory) and Vanessa and Emily (Brian).

Barry will be honored at a service on September 29, 2013, at The Burlingame Woman's Club, 241 Park Road, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Rodan Foundation, 25 Highland Avenue, Burlingame or to a charity of your choice.
