Alan Sampson Obituary

Alan Sampson

Alan Merle Sampson of Danville, California passed away unexpectedly on October 6, 2013 at the age of 74.
Alan was born in San Francisco on September 16, 1939. He was the son of the late Merle Sampson and Catherine (MacKinnon) Sampson. Alan is survived by his loving wife Sylvia, step-children Richard (Cathy), Colin, and Deborah (Peter), grandchildren Brian, Matthew (Joy), Stephen, Anna, Carolyn, and Olivia, great-grandson Elijah, sister, Marilyn Lindquist (Alan), niece Heather Sikita (John), cousins, and many friends.
Alan graduated from Balboa High School in San Francisco and went on to San Francisco State College. He spent several years living in Japan and Hong Kong in the import/export business. In the Bay Area, Alan worked as senior vice president of ABD Insurance & Financial Services, and formerly was president of Insurance Associates of Northern California for 27 years.
Alan thoroughly enjoyed many outdoor sports. In Hong Kong, he was an enthusiastic sailor, spending many memorable weekends sailing with his family. He was an accomplished tennis player and avid golfer, and a member of Blackhawk Country Club, where he also volunteered his time on the board and various committees. He quite enjoyed a competitive game of bocce ball with his friends.
Alan is remembered as a caring and giving person, always quick to reach out to others with a welcoming hand, and was loved by friends and associates throughout his life and career.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Dear Sylvia and family - I was Alan's Travelers Marketing Rep for many years until I moved to Ga. about 10 yrs ago and was shocked to hear about Alan's death. He was always one of my favorite agency principals and I loved working with him throughout the many years I did Personal Lines with Insurance Associates. He handled his position with kindness, cooperation and humor! I know he will be sorely missed.

Sylvia and Family:
We are totally shocked. Alan was always one of our favorites and every year at the Blue Ribbon we enjoyed catching up on each others lives. We are so truly saddened by his passing.
Love to you.

Sylvia, Cindy and I were deeply saddened to learn of Alan's unexpected passing. Our thoughts and sympathies are with you and your family. Although our lives diverged for many years, I still hold the fondest memories of the crazy antics of our European odyssey together, with Dave, and our college days; as well as our families' time together in the 1980's when we all lived in Contra Costa County. Who know if the European odyssey introduced us to the possibility of living and working abroad, which had other far-reaching meaning for both our lives. Alan was a special person who we know touched many lives, including ours. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. Cindy & Jerry McMahon

To the Sampson family - While I only met Alan one time, I want you to know that the quality of my life was substantially improved as a result. Alan encouraged me to obtain a hip replacement. I had been hobbling around on a cane for almost 2 years unable to play tennis (my favorite passtime). As a result of his encouragement, I underwent a hip replacement and am now enjoying tennis once again...Thank You Alan. I look forward to meeting you again in the future. In the meantime, please know that my prayers are with the Sampson family during this time of loss.

Hi Sylvia-
As a result of meeting you and Alan over 25 years ago as one of my father's (Barry Lastra) friends I was deeply influenced by his generous, down to earth and caring spirit.
Love, Dave
