Bob Wiebusch, athlete and gentle soul, succumbed to colon cancer and left this life for another realm Dec. 28, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife Mary and a niece, Patti Spinetti.
Bob was born in San Francisco and enjoyed the good life there. He attended St. Brigid Grammar School where his athletic prowess was first discovered. There he played football, basketball and baseball.
At St. Ignatius Bob played four years of varsity basketball. In his senior year he received the Brophy Award. The sportswriters of the city chose him to become a member of both the All City and All Northern California basketball teams. In 1951 Bob was elected Capt. of the Championship Team.
At USF Bob played varsity basketball three years and was a member of the NCAA Championship team. After college he was part of a group sponsored by the Dept. of State who made a two month good-will tour of South America and Central America playing basketball in 29 different cities.
Both Bob and Mary loved to travel and spent many happy times in Hawaii. Their wanderlust also found them in Alaska, Canada, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Australia, New Zealand, the South Sea Islands, most of the European countries and one of their very favorites, Turkey.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held January 25 at 1:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse in Creekside in Sonoma, California. All those who knew and loved Bob are invited to come and share their stories.
