In her 100th year, Josephine Elizabeth Baum Haas passed away peacefully on June 14, 2014 at her home Middlefield Farm in Novato. Jody was born in 1914 in Kaw City, Oklahoma, the youngest of 5 siblings. In 1944, she was transferred from St. Louis to San Francisco to be the personnel director of the 4th Army Airfield. She met and married Peter E. Haas, Sr. in 1945. Together they had three children, Peter Edgar Haas, Jr., Michael Stern Haas, and Margaret Elizabeth Haas. She was involved in various activities in San Francisco, such as a docent for the SF Fine Arts Museums, and worked tirelessly for the San Francisco Chapter of Aid To Retarded Citizens. In 1960, she and her husband bought Middlefield Farm in Novato. It was in her mid-fifties, with one horse and one trainer, that she started the enterprise that would become Middlefield Morgans. It was dedicated to breeding, showing, and promoting America's breed, the Morgan Horse. Thirty years later, she became so successful, that she was known to have the finest string of Morgans on the West Coast. In 1995, she was inducted into the Morgan Horse Hall of Fame in Vermont. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Jody was a gracious, kind person. John and I had the pleasure of riding with her and Peter when we lived in Indian Valley during the early 70's. We won't forget those care free days. Our deepest sympathy to her family and friends

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Haas, but grew up admiring the photos of her wonderful Morgan horses in the Morgan horse magazine. Thank-you Mrs. Haas for your support of the Morgan horse breed over the years. May God above bless and keep your family.
