Irving Berg Obituary

Irving Louis Berg

Irving Louis Berg, 83, died Monday, September 15, 2014 at Marin General Hospital following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Irving was born on March 19, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Harry and Anna Berg.

After graduating from Wayne State University, Irving lived in several different parts of the country. After serving in the military during the Korean War, he ultimately settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. A graduate of Golden Gate University School of Law, Irving practiced consumer law for 49 years. He was truly passionate about advocating for the consumer rights of his clients.

Irving embodied the notion that education is a lifelong journey and devoted much of his free time to reading multiple newspapers each day. Never without a stack of books on his bedside table, Irving framed his understanding of current events by voraciously reading non-fiction and historical literature.

Irving was the devoted husband to Carol and a beloved father to Susanne, Seth (Denise), Jonathan (Nicole), Joanna and Jennifer Berg. Irving had 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom he was extremely proud. Irving was the dear brother of Rosalie (the late Edward) Bierman, the late Marion (Sol) Stein, the late Evelyn (the late Isadore) Silverman, and the late Millie (the late Harold) Singer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education (http://cancergrace.org/donate) or to the Marin County Library Foundation.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 17th at Sinai Memorial Chapel at 10:00am with internment to follow at Mt. Tamalpais Memorial Cemetery.
