Emmanuel Uren Obituary

Emmanuel Montebello Uren

80, of San Francisco, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 surrounded by close friends.
He was born on April 15, 1935 in Plymouth, England to the late Edmund Redvers Uren and Ines Mary Montebello. He graduated with honors and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Manchester (England). While he was in England, he played soccer and was his team's captain. He lived in Mexico City from May 1958 to August 1958. He moved to the United States in September 1958 and lived in New Haven, Connecticut, in order to study at Yale University where he received a Master's degree in Industrial Administration. He became a United States citizen in 1965. He later enrolled in Graduate Studies in Operations Research from Stanford University.
EmmanuelÂ's professional career included Project Engineer at Schlumberger Surenco Camps in Venezuela from October 1956 to April 1958; his first job in the United States was at Standard Oil in 1960; and, lastly, was a Software Engineer at Siebel Systems where he co-authored a book Â'Software Internationalization and Localization An Introduction' in August 1993. He retired from his professional career in 2000.
He spoke eight languages (English, Latin, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German); was a racquet ball and squash player and a certified United States Squash Racquets Association Referee; history buff; sailor, volunteer on race committee and many other committees for the South Beach Yacht Club and race committee and historian for Golden Gate Yacht Club; volunteer on the America's Cup Race Management Team and served as a Â'Marshall' for the America's Cup in Plymouth, England in 2011; had a passion for the performing arts and was an opera aficionado, and was an extra for the San Francisco Opera as a guardsman and spear carrier in several productions. He liked to be known as "The Boulevardier'. He will be dearly missed.

Emmanuel and I performed together in several operas. He was one of the most erudite and sophisticated gentleman I ever knew. He will be missed.
