James Bosson passed away peacefully at home on November 30, 2016 surrounded by family after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
A passionate scholar, he was a Professor of Mongolian, Tibetan and Manchurian studies for 35 years at UC Berkeley, and 5 years at Harvard. His generosity with his time and expertise as a teacher was reflected in the respect and dedication shown by his students, many of whom became lifelong friends.
Whether in the gold mines in Alaska, on the steppes of Mongolia or at his beloved cabin in Northern Sweden, dad lived a rich life built on a constant thirst for knowledge, love of travel and his family & friendships.
When not traveling, he and my mom have had the great pleasure of living on a street in the Berkeley Hills surrounded by the most remarkable, friendly and thoughtful neighbors.
We wish to send a special thank you to Alofa, his in-home caregiver with a heart of gold, and to the kind care and support provided by Kaiser hospice staff in his last weeks, especially Gabriella and Mark.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 44 years Ann-Britt; daughters Jenny (Jason) and Monica, son Nicky (Kelly); brother Chell (Louise) and sister Doris Kern; extended family, which includes his great friend Charlie Costello (Liz); his adored granddaughter Molly and his dog Max. We will all miss him beyond words.
A memorial gathering celebrating his life will take place on Sun Dec 18th, 2016, open house from 12-4pm. Should friends desire, gifts in his memory may be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (www.curealz.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
