Resident of Concord (forner longtime resident of Norwalk, CA)

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lucille Benton, 92, entered into rest on March 18, 2013 in Concord. She was born on June 8, 1920 in Graham, Texas to Virgil and Ruby (Matney) Shephard. Lucille moved from Texas to California with her parents and seven siblings during WWII. She is predeceased by her spouse, Steve Benton, whom she married in 1942. In the early 50's Steve and Lucille moved to Norwalk, California. Lucille was very active in PTA. She was a loving and giving person and made many lifetime friends. Her children and grandchildren were her existence. She also loved animals and raised many turtles. Lucille moved to Spokane, Washington, in 2001 to live with her daughter and in 2005 moved to Concord to live with her son. She was a resident of The Good Life residential care home at the time of her passing.
Lucille is survived by her children, Gary Benton (Glenna) and Sandra Van Campen; sister, Pauline Morrow; five grandchildren, Christopher Van Campen (Holly), Kelly Van Campen Burns (Troy), Jennifer Benton Dean (Anil), Carolyn Benton Everett (Brian), and Maureen Benton Gibe; and five great-grandchildren, Nolan, Kaelynn, and Addison Burns, Noah Van Campen, and Zoe Dean.
A memorial service will be held for Lucille at Saint John Vianney Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek on Friday, April 12, at 10:30 am. Lucille will be laid to rest next her husband, Steve with a simple grave-side service at 11:00 am on June 29, 2013, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. Ouimet Bros. Chapel
