Aurora (Maldonado) (Streit Byerly) Hall
Aurora slipped from her present life on Dec. 12th, to continue on the exciting journey she had been on before her elder years got in the way of her fun. Aurora's family called her 'Rory' and she was known as 'Pet' to friends. Aurora was born, March 1, 1927, and raised in Laredo, TX. and graduated from Laredo Martin High School. After graduation from high school she attended Texas Lutheran College (now TLU) and was roommates with Betty (Pfeuffer) Triesch, leading to a lifelong friendship. After graduating with an Associates degree she moved to California, she got her Bachelor of Arts from Redlands and her Masters degree from Stanford University. Aurora taught many years and retired from teaching in the San Bernardino School District. In 2005 she moved to New Braunfels to be close to Betty and Ken Triesch and has been a resident of Eden Hill since that time.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth V. (Rios) Maldonado, father, Cristino Maldonado, adopted mothers Margaret Streit and Mabel Byerly, and her good friend, Betty Triesch.
She is survived by her sister Armandina Cates, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends she made through her many travels and organizations she belonged to. She is also survived by her extended family stemming from her friendship with Betty and Ken Triesch.
Pet loved to play bridge and played in several national tournaments, always loving the challenge and competition. She was into Yoga and health foods long before it was 'the thing to do'. In San Bernardino she was very active in the local Toastmasters group. AND, she could hardly pass up a good garage sale, always excited about what treasure she might find.
A memorial service will be held Jan. 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eden Hill Chapel in New Braunfels, TX. Many thanks go out to the staff of Eden Hill and Hope Hospice for their wonderful care extended to our Pet. In lieu of flowers a donation to a
can be made in Aurora's name.
