James Warner Kennelly, 74, passed away October 26, 2013 in Grand Forks, at Altru Hospital. Jay was born to James and Aurel (Warner) Kennelly, August 12, 1939, in Pasadena, CA where he was a resident until moving to Glasston, ND in 2004. He graduated from Pasadena High School (CA) in 1957. He attended UND Grand Forks briefly and joined the US Navy
in 1961 and was assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk. One highlight for Jay while aboard, was logging in President John F. Kennedy's visit to the carrier.
He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1997. Jay is survived by one brother, David, Laguna Beach, CA; three sisters, Janet McGrath, Grants Pass, OR; Dorothy Fry and Aurel Ann Kassel, both of Aptos, CA; ten nieces and nephews; sixteen great nieces and nephews; two great, great nieces and one great, great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one nephew. Jay will be greatly missed by his family and a fond nickname some nieces and nephews called him was the "Curmudgeon." He just grumbled and smiled!
