Patricia Bunting Payonzeck, 78, a longtime resident of San Marino, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2014, in Atascadero, California.
She was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on July 21, 1935 to the late John and Julia Bunting. After graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School, Pat received her bachelor's degree from the Ohio State University
and moved to California to pursue her career in teaching. In South Pasadena, she met the love of her life, the late John A. Payonzeck. They were married in 1961.
Pat, as she was known to her many friends, taught second grade in the Pasadena school system and retired following the birth of her children.
When John's work took them to London, England from 1974 to 1975, Pat was able to indulge her love of traveling and antiquing. Though she explored every continent in the course of her life, her time in Great Britain confirmed her status as an Anglophile, and it was with some reluctance that she returned to California.
Pat was a student of and a passionate advocate for the arts. She volunteered her time as an active participant in many charitable organizations, including the San Marino League and the Pasadena Junior Philharmonic Committee.
She was a gracious lady and a fiercely loyal friend.
Pat is survived by her three children: Suzy Evangelista of Templeton; Jill Lengré of Palo Alto; and Steve Payonzeck of San Francisco. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Tyler Evangelista, Sébastien Lengré and Laura Lengré.
