Robert V. Hodgins
July 7, 1916 - May 3, 2014
Robert passed away peacefully in his Long Beach home of 40 years. Predeceased by wife, Elsie of 70 years; sister, Phyllis and brother, James. He is survived by son, Robert, Jr. and daughter, Judy; 2 granddaughters, 3 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, 7 nieces and nephews. Born in Chicago, IL to Mary Jones and Thomas Earl Hodgins and raised in the Midwest before coming to San Francisco with his family after high school graduation. He graduated from San Francisco State College, where he met Elsie in their education classes. He enlisted in the Navy and served as a Chief of Training in San Diego. After WWII he worked in Harbor City as director of recreation park and then as a high school PE teacher with LAUSD until retirement. In addition to Elsie, his great love was traveling with the family which he did every summer and then extensively after retirement with Elsie. Services to honor his life will be held on May 23, 11:00 a.m., at the Long Beach Bayshore Community Congregational Church. Any donations to Long Beach Rescue Mission.
