DALLEY, Cathrine I
Cathrine I. (Sally Dalley), age 81 of Covina, passed away December 4, 2013 in Glendora. She was born January 9, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio to John & Margaret Fotens.
Sally was active in the 1st Presbyterian Church in Covina. She was a Sunday School Teacher & was involved for years with the Senior High's. She began her love of sailing by joining a Girl Scout Mariner ship in the San Francisco area. Upon moving to Southern California she became Skipper of Mariner ship Lexington. She married her Sea Scout Skipper & joined the Seal Beach Yacht Club. In 1976 and for the next 30 years Sally was actively involved in many aspects of SLBYC; including Chairman for the Sea Belles, on the Board of Directors, Historian of the club, active with the Race Management Team & conducted many of the races from the stern of the Seal Owl IV. She received many awards including Member of the Year and Race Results for the Newport to Ensenada race.
Sally partnered with her husband and volunteered with ABYC's race committee for many major regattas. She became Commodore of the Association of San Pedro Bay Yacht Club & received the Yachtswoman of the Year award 2 years later. She also was inducted to the I.O.B.G. In 2004, Sally & Jerry received the George L. & Kay B, Fisher Memorial Trophy for rendering distinguished service to yachting in Southern California by the SCYA. They were awarded Life Memberships by SLBYC.
Sally was a communicator for the race committee team for major regattas in the 1984 Olympics
in Long Beach.
Sally received her Masters Degree from Azusa Pacific College and worked for the LA County Probation Department as a DP02 until her retirement in 1990. She spent about 3
years volunteering for the Covina Police Department as a VIP.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, John & Margaret Fotens; and brother Alden. She is survived by her husband Jerry R. Dalley.
