of Chino, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2011, with her son by her side. Born in San Pedro, California, in 1924, to Mary and Firmin Steves, in 1927 the family moved their dairy business to Soquel Canyon in the Chino Hills. She grew up on the ranch, learning to ride horses at an early age. Evelyn and her older sister, Marjorie, spent many of their childhood days on horseback, rounding up their cows through the hills. The little frame house still stands on the ranch land and is now Heaven's Ranch Stable, where horses are boarded and trained. Evelyn attended Richard Gird Elementary School in Chino, the family moved back to San Pedro, where she attended high school. After graduation she married John Machado, Sr., and in 1948 they moved to the Chino area, where they established a dairy, and raised their three children. Evelyn was a member of the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, and also was affi liated with the Chino Woman's Club. During the 1960's Evelyn and her mother, Mary (Steves) Franco owned and operated the Franco-Machado Dairy. In the early 1970's, Evelyn married a former childhood sweetheart, Bill McElroy, and for a number of years they owned and operated restaurants, one of which was the Creekside Kitchen in Oak Glen, where she made many lasting friendships that were enjoyed throughout the years. Evelyn was preceded in death by her son, Danny Machado, and her husband, Bill McElroy. She is survived by her son, John Machado, and daughter, Margie Machado. The family wishes to thank her dear friend, Patty Smith, for all her love and care over these past years. Evelyn was truly loved by all who knew her, and she will be missed. Services were private.
