ARDIS GALYEN Obituary

GALYEN, ARDIS K. September 8, 1940 - November 28, 2010 Ardis K. Galyen, 70, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 28, 2010. Ardis was born to Jessie and Robert Clarence Henry in Seaside, Oregon, on September 8, 1940. Growing up she was very active in her community, even representing the town as Miss Seaside in the Miss Oregon Pageant. Ardis graduated from Oregon State University, where she was involved in academics, athletics, and was voted Homecoming Queen. Moving to California she started teaching in Westminster. Ardis began a lifelong sharing of her talent for guiding, teaching, and inspiring others, especially with her sons and niece and nephew. She married her college sweetheart, Jim Galyen, in 1964, living and raising a family throughout the country, including Guam, until settling in Redlands, California. She lived in Redlands from 1976 until 1983, while Jim was stationed at Norton AFB. After Jim retired from the Air Force, they returned to live in Redlands in 1991. Jim and their sons, their wives and grandchildren were the joy of her life. Ardis was a wonderful loyal friend, with many lasting friendships from her childhood, and from all the diverse places that she lived. She was actively involved at Mozarts, and volunteered through the years at Kimberly Crest, Bowl Associates, Symphony Gala, Literacy Group, as well as many other organizations. She developed a worldly appreciation of the Arts and Literature. She loved to read and was a longstanding member of the Redlands Readers Book Club. Ardis was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, where she was active in her Small Faith group for almost 20 years. She frequently traveled with her husband to new places like New Zealand, the Mediterranean and Scandinavia, with plans to visit more. Ardis is survived by her husband of 46 years, of Redlands; and her two sons, Mark of Phoenix, Arizona and Mike of Austin, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Lynn and grandchildren, Max and Sam of Austin, Texas; a sister, Carla of Virginia; and niece and nephew, Greg and Jill. Services are pending and will be provided in this Sunday's obituary. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in the name of Ardis Galyen may be made to Sacred Heart Academy, 215 South Eureka St., Redlands, CA 92373. Cortner Chapel in Redlands is handling arrangements with the family.

Jim,Mark,Mike,
I remember it being a hot July day in Junction City Kansas. When up comes "a sporty little car". Out pops the four of you. My mom comes flying down the steps. (She did not need a jet.) Yelling so that you could hear it in the next state. JIM GALYEN AND ARTIE AND THE BOYS ARE HERE.
