Charles Lightwood Obituary
ROGERS-Charles Lightwood, Died peacefully surrounded by family in Pasadena at the age of 79 on October 29, 2010 following complications from recent surgery. Chuck was born in San Diego in October of 1931, graduated from San Diego High School in 1949, attended UC Berkeley and transferred to Stanford University where he received an AB in 1953. He served in the Counter Intelligence Corps of the US Army fo r two years. He attended Stanford Law School and earned a JD in 1957. While stationed by the CIC on the East Coast, Chuck met Marion Booth, a secondary schoolteacher in New Haven, CT who had recently graduated from college and was the daughter of Albie Booth, Yale's legendary All-American and Hall of Fame football player. Chuck and Marion married in November of 1955 in Hamden, CT and began their lifelong partnership. They have resided in the Pasadena area since 1959. Chuck and Marion devoted their time to raising their six children. They remember their Dad's absolute love of family, his unqualified generosity and devotion, his uncompromised integrity, his mastery of impeccable writing, his lack of pretense and, of course, his ever present sharp wit and sarcastic humor. Chuck consistently supported the Catholic Church and was appointed a Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. After practicing law in New Haven for two years, Chuck joined the firm of Lawler, Felix and Hall in Los Angeles as an associat e in 1959. He became a partner and remained with this firm for most of his career with a practice that was prominent in the telecommunications industry. Chuck is survived by Marion, his beloved wife of nearly 55 years; their six children, Pamela Burton (John) of Temple City, David (Vicky) of San Marino, Albie of Newport Beach, Marion Riley Campbell (Robin) of Park City, UT, Charles (Anne) of San Marino, and Sarah Krappman (Matthew) of San Gabriel; their 15 grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph W. Rogers of San Francisco and John F. Rogers of Yorba Linda. The family is planning a Memorial Mass at 10:00 am on Friday, November 19 at Holy Family Church, 1501 Fremont Avenue, South Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chuck's memory may be made to any of Huntington Memorial Hospital (Pasadena), Holy Family Church (South Pasadena), St. Philip the Apostle Church (Pasadena), Saints Felicitas and Perpetua Church (San Marino) or American Martyrs Church (Manhattan Beach).
