Cynthia Riley Obituary

Riley, Cynthia 02/6/1927 - 10/1/2010 Cynthia Olivia Nelson Riley passed away after a long fight with a pneumonia-related illness. She was born in New York, NY., to Philip Nelson and Elmira Hoyt and was the youngest of their children. Cynthia spent her early years living in Georgetown, British Guiana where she developed a lifelong love of languages, music, and Afro/Caribbean food. In 1936 she returned to New York and in 1946, graduated from Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY. Cynthia loved to travel and talk politics. She had a strong belief in metaphysics and astrology and used their teachings to guide her in life. Cynthia was an enthusiastic learner, embracing every opportunity to explore her interests and along the way became a qualified medical secretary, a legal secretary, and was awarded for her hard work, kindness and generosity of spirit. In the last few years of her life, Cynthia was an active member ofthe San Bernardino County Senior Companion Volunteer Program. Shefelt the joy of connecting with other seniors while helping them with their day-to-day needs. She made a positive impact on many lives through this program.Cynthia is survived by her daughter, Karen Roxanne Riley; her son, Keith Warren Riley; her brothers, Nathaniel and Jonathan Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Philip and Easton Nelson.
