My deepest sympathies to the Ferris family. Mr. Ferris was an amazing teacher and instrumental in my life. He was my teacher in fourth grade at Justice Street Elementary and was also an advisor for the leadership council that I was a part. He inspired his students to become the best versions of themselves through his kind nature, sense of humor, and just overall caring attitude. As an adult I corresponded with him to tell him about the impact he had on my life. I shared with him that I went on to pursue a career in speech-language pathology and worked in the school setting. I just retired from that position after 41 year! Mr. Ferris was an amazing teacher and human. Rest in peace and love Mr. Ferris

Mr. Ferris was one of the most wonderful and inspirational teachers I ever had; I am so sorry to hear this news. I attended Columbus in '97 and '98. He was my Drama teacher (and the funnest substitute EVER!). I got to perform in two of his productions and he also introduced me to a wonderful summer theater program (where I met some of my best friends). Mr. Ferris made such an impact on my life, at a time when I needed it (middle school, ugh). We kept in touch while I was in high school; he came to see me perform there.
He was the first person to really encourage me to pursue acting, which became a central part of my life for a long time...and now I am teacher! I hope that one day I might leave such a legacy of true passion, commitment, and joy as Mr. Ferris did.

I loved Mr Ferris. I had him for 2 periods in the 6th grade at Columbus Jr. High. Even though its been almost 20 yrs, I still remember him.
I loved his sense of humor. He rode me a little hard in class but one day he pulled me aside and told me its because I had so much potential.
Hearing that from him has always stayed with me.
It's hard to imagine how many other countless people he has touched.
Condolences to the family.
