Donald Neu Obituary

NEU-Donald Harry Neu, 77, passed away Friday, September 24, following a long illness. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on September 18, 1933, he was the youngest of Marcel and Tillie Neu's four children. After graduating from Manasquan High School, he attended General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, Michigan, where in 1956 he earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and developed his life-long fondness for GM cars. He served two years of active duty in the US Army. He received his master's degree from the University of Southern California. His professional career spanned 40 years and included management positions at GM assembly plants in Southern California. He met his wife, Beverly, in 1959. They married the next year and moved to San Marino in 1965, where he lived the rest of his life. Donald was an active member of the community having been involved in the San Marino Rotary Club and San Marino Community Church where he served as an elder and deacon. In 1987 he was commodore of the Fourth of July Yacht Club located on Catalina Island, a frequent sailing destination for his family. In later years, he enjoyed playing golf at San Gabriel Country Club where he was a member for nearly 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly H. Neu, daughter Jennifer Higginbotham (Steve), son Eric Neu (Karla), four grandchildren, sister Arlene Gibb, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Following a private burial at Forest Lawn in Glendale, a memorial service will be held Friday, October 8 at 2 p.m. at San Marino Community Church with a reception following at San Gabriel Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in his memory be made to either the San Marino Community Church or USC's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
