Dwayne Edward Hillis

Dwayne Edward Hillis On April 7th, 1964, Dwayne Edward Hillis arrived into this world two months too early, and on October 9th, 2010, Dwayne left this world several years too early. Starting his life in Wilmington, Delaware, Dwayne was born a fighter. Born premature, he struggled during his first months of life while his parents, George Ann Allen Hillis, and Pete Hillis, Sr. kept a watchful eye over him. And in the end, being afflicted with COPD, Dwayne again was struggling during the last few years of his life. Gone at only 46 years of age, his only grandchild, Bradley Whittington, age 2, will know his grandfather through the stories and memories of his children, Jennifer Renee Whittington of Bakersfield, CA, and Michael Paul Hillis of Norwalk, CA. He will be remembered for his wit and humor by his brothers, Pete Hillis, Jr. and wife, Carrie, Anthony ("Tony") Hillis and wife, Janell, Joshua Hillis, his sister, Taylor Hillis, and his step-mother, Patricia Hillis. He will be especially missed and remembered by his big brother, Walter ("Bud") Hillis for his never-ending trust and loyalty. During his life, Dwayne became a very skilled plumber, learning the trade from his father. He worked alongside his brothers, Pete, Bud, and Tony at various times. He also worked alongside his son, Michael, where he passed on his own skill and knowledge. Michael attributes his own plumbing ability and talent to the things his father taught him. Friends and family are invited to Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary, 5161 E. Arbor Road, Long Beach, California on Thursday, October 14th, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and also on Friday, October 15th, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to share their own memories of Dwayne with his family. On Friday, October 15th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. a celebration of Dwayne's life will be held also at Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary.
