EDWARD CAPPARELLI Obituary

age 83, a 52 year resident on Rancho Cucamonga, died on October 3, 2010 from complications of Multiple Myeloma and Diabetes. He died as he wished, at his home, supported by the love of his family. Edward was born on February 10, 1927 in Endicott, New York. He was the son of Italian immigrants, Anthony and Filomena Capparelli. He spent his childhood in N.Y and when he came to California to attend Pepperdine University, his parents followed. After living several years in Los Angeles the family moved to Upland, CA in 1954. A lifelong love of music started when Ed attended public school in Endicott. As a young man, he competed in and won state and regional music competitions on baritone and trombone. He later became a member and soloist of the IBM Corporation Band, the Endicott Johnson Corporation Band and the U.S. Military Academy Band while at West Point. He was recruited for bands to back up traveling shows for the Ice Capades, rodeos, Bob Hope, Carmen Miranda and Paggy Lee. Ed served at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 1946-1949. He went on to major in history and music at college. He attended N.Y. State University at Postdam, George Pepperdine University, graduating in 1950 with a BA, USC graduating with an MA in 1953 and attended Claremont Graduate University for post-grduate work. Soon after graduating from USC he met and married another USC alumni and love of his life, Suzanna Hutchinson of Ontario, CA. They were together for 55 years and had three children and five grandchildren. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them. Aside from his great love of music, which he shared with Suzanna, Ed was passionate about collecting and reading books and exploring fine cuisine. Ed delighted in the company of others, he was always ready with his quick wit and sharp sense of humor, qualities that he carried to the very end. Ed taught at Fontana High School and served as the Social Sciences Chair there for 27 years. Ed also taught History at Chaffey College in the evenings for many years during that time. Ed retired from teaching at Fontana High School after 31 years in 1984. After retirement, Ed became very active in the rental housing business that he ran with Suzanna. Suzanna preceded him in death in February 2010. Edward is survived by his children: Dr. Anthony W. Capparelli (Kathy Capparelli), Deena -Lisa Capparelli. (Claude S. Willey Jr.), and Dr. Edmund V. Capparelli (Gale Romanowski). His grandchildren: Michael, Thomas, Tasha, Christopher and Anzel Capparelli, his sister-in-law Beverly Hutchinson, his nieces, nephew, grand nieces and grand nephews, along with many devoted friends. I met Ed in 1976 when I rented a house on 9th street in Upland from him until 1984. He was my first landlord, and a wonderful man. He was a very hard worker, and did almost all the maintenance himself.
My sincere condolences to those he left behind.
