ELVA GARY Obituary

86, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Woods Health Services in La Verne following a lengthy illness. She was born May 10, 1924, in San Dimas to James and Florence Gary, and lived there until her move to Hillcrest Homes in La Verne three years ago. She attended San Dimas Elementary School and graduated from Bonita High School, La Verne. Following high school she went to work at the San Dimas Post Office, where she was a familiar figure for 40 years until her retirement in 1983. Elva was an active member of the First Baptist Church in San Dimas until her move to La Verne. Many will remember her as a favorite Sunday School Teacher and Junior Church Leader. She was also a member and office holder in the San Dimas Historical Society and Business and Professional Womens Club. Elva and her twin sister were avid bowlers for many years and enjoyed many wonderful vacations together. Elva is survived by her twin sister, Nelma, another sister, Barbara Stiles of Redding, her niece Judy Stover and a host of other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Opal Clarkson and brother Chester Gary. Services will be held at Hillcrest on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 1:00PM in the Smeltzer Lounge, 2701 Mt. View Drive, La Verne, CA 91750. In lieu of flowers; donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Hillcrest Homes or the San Dimas Historical Society, San Dimas. Arrangements by Todd Memorial.
