James Anthony Young

James Anthony Young, 86, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on May, 10, 2013 in Long Beach, California. Visitation will be held at Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St Cornelius Catholic Church, 5500 E. Wardlow Rd., Long Beach on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Pat Sheary, S.J. of St. Cornelius Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery. Jim was born in Sandusky, Ohio to Theodore Carl Young and Mary Catherine Fox-Young on June 6, 1926. He went to high school at Margaretta High School and graduated in 1944. Jim served in the United States Navy from April 1944 to July 1946, Seaman Second Class. He went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana graduating in 1950. Jim worked as an electrical engineer in a civilian capacity for the United States Navy in Bremerton, Washington and Long Beach, California, retiring after 30 years. He was involved in Boy Scouts of America, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Saint Cornelius Catholic Church, and NARFE. He enjoyed gardening, photography, travel, computers, brain games, reading, and sports. He received numerous awards and honors from the Navy during his long tenure. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Alton, Norman, Thomas, and Theodore , and a son, Charles Leonard.Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Ann, a sister, Millie, a brother, Raymond, 7 children, Michael, James Jr., Robert, Elizabeth, John, Paul, and Patricia, 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren.
