JAMES MEADOWS Obituary

MEADOWS-JAMES IRVING MEADOWS, SR. of Altadena, CA, died November 25, 2010 at home. Born in Watertown, SD, March 11, 1921. He attended University of South Dakota and San Francisco City College. He served in Second Marine Division of the US Marine Corps during WWII, in Guadalcanal, New Zealand, and Tarawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received on Tarawa. He settled in Altadena in 1948, worked for Monrovia Nursery before starting his own business in 1952, selling nursery supplies, equipment and electric trucks to the horticulture industry all over the US. He was well-known at nursery trade shows all over the country, and was active and held office in the Los Angeles chapter of California Association of Nurserymen. He represented Taylor-Dunn Manufacturing Company, Anaheim, for 36 years. He retired from his business in 1988, and moved to Fresno for 6 years. Returned to Altadena in 1996 and lived just off N. Lake Avenue. He is survived by his wife, Christine; his children, Louise Story, Jim Meadows, Jr., Laurie Meadows, Leslie Stoll, Irene Leister, and Richard Barfield; his grandchildren: Marian, Sara, Angela, John, Joe, Ron, Erin, Kelly, Summer, and Nathan; his great-grandchildren: Hayley, Jayden, Naomi, Sonia, Isaiah, Kaysten, Caleb, Mackenzie, Spencer; his brother, Dick Meadows, Orange, CA. He is pre-deceased by his son Dickie Meadows and his brother, William H. Meadows. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Dec. 11, 3 pm, at Altadena Community Church.

I have fond childhood memories of my Uncle Jim. My thoughts and sympathy go to Aunt Chris and all my cousins.

I'm going to miss you Uncle Jim. You were such a large part of my growing-up years. I remember all of the holidays at your Lake Avenue home and playing with all of my cousins.
