BARNES, John George

John George Barnes, 97¸ peacefully left this world on March 25, 2012 surrounded by his family.
Born March 17th 1915 in Johnston City, IL.to Henry and Mary Barnes he was one of four children.
He enlisted in the Army in 1941and served with distinction, under General George
Patton, as a Squad Leader until 1945 when WWII ended. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal Citation for distinctive service in connection with military operations against the enemy in Europe.
John worked at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar race tracks for over 50 years before he retired at age 70.
He was an avid gardener and known for his roses. He spent his spare time beating opponents at Scrabble.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alice Barnes; daughters Carolyn Trostle of Duncan, OK and Dorothy and husband Scott Dick of Alta Loma, CA.; eight (8) grandchildren; fourteen (14) great grandchildren; one (1) great great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, March 30th, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, and the Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 31st, 9:30 am, both at Cabot & Sons Funeral Home, 27 Chestnut St., Pasadena 91103.The interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
