Joseph McLinden, Jr.

Joseph McLinden, Jr. entered into Eternal Rest after a lengthy illness on Monday, July 16, 2012 in Hemet, California. The son of Joseph McLinden, Sr. and Geraldine Yegge McLinden was born October 22, 1933 in Denver, CO. He attended St. Anthony High School, Long Beach, CA prior to serving in the US Naval Reserve. Upon discharge from the Navy, he was employed by Douglas Aircraft Co. In August 1960, he became a Firefighter for the City of Long Beach, CA. Although he spent most of his career at Long Beach Airport Station 16s, he also served as Photographer and Public Information Officer, as well as Fire Department Dispatcher. After 28 years of service, he retired in December 1988. He was very active in various civic and charitable organizations within the City of Long Beach and, from 1979-80, served as Exalted Ruler of Long Beach Elks Lodge #888. He was active in the Catholic Boys Baseball League, Boy Scouting, as well as being one of the founding members of the Long Beach Search and Rescue Explorer Post. Mr. McLinden is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Liggett McLinden; sons, Matthew J. McLinden (Alice) Corona, CA; Christopher McLinden (Veronica) Long Beach, CA; Andrew P. McLinden, Hemet, CA, daughter, Rebecca M. Chauvin, Hemet, CA; grandsons, Sean P. McLinden (Tracie), Christopher M. McLinden, Russell Salazar; granddaughters, Linda Cupples, Christina M. Fail; great grandson, Cameron Cupples. He is also survived by sisters, Geraldine Tasset (Glenn) Springfield, Mo.; Michaeleen Riel Lodi, CA, Colleen Watson, Lodi, CA and Jodine Englehart, Long Beach, CA, and sixteen nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by son, Patrick J. McLinden; brother, Timothy J. McLinden and sister, Maureen Richter. Private family services. Please sign the guest book at www.presstelegram.com/obituaries.
