JUANA C. DESLEAL

passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 95, on October 7, 2010 to be with the Lord. She was born in Guanajuato, Mexico on October 20, 1914 to Demetrio and Julia Fernandez Cuellar. Her family came to Pomona in 1916, where she lived most of her life. Juana was preceded in death by her first husband and father of their children, Samuel V. Lopez who died in 1971 and by second husband Angel Desleal who died in 1998. Juana moved to Oak Harbor, Washington from Corona, California in 1998 and lived with her daughter, Rachel and son-in-law Raymond Holcomb for the last 12 years. Juana was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who touched countless lives. Juana was the second of 11 children. She taught herself to sew, crochet and cook. She excelled in all that she did. She became an United States Citizen in the 1990's and was very proud of that accomplishment. She was employed in a variety of jobs but found her work most rewarding as an assistant and aid at a rest home for the elderly. She enjoyed reading and took long daily walks along the gravel and paved roads on Whidbey Island up until her passing. Juana also enjoyed RV traveling with her daughter and husband and was able to see all of the west and most of the Midwestern states. She will be greatly missed by all. She was a member of the Pomona Church of the Nazarene. She belonged to the Sociedes Progresesta Mexicana Lodge 6, and a variety of clubs. She also enjoyed entertaining in her home. Juana is survived by three children, Elouise "Dolly" Lewman of Upland, daughter Rachel and son-in-law Raymond Holcomb of Oak Harbor, WA and son Samuel C. Lopez of Pomona, CA. She had seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons. A celebration of Juana's life will be at Todd Memorial Chapel. Viewing at 11:30AM and service at 12:30PM on Friday, October 15, 2010. Burial at Pomona Valley Cemetery immediately following.
