KAREN HUBLER Obituary

September 23, 2010 Karen was born in Pennsylvania and came to California in 1792. She has lived here for the past 38 years. In 2003, Karen was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. After a hard, long, valiant struggle, Karen died at her home in Ontario on Thursday, the 23rd of September. Karen was preceded in death by the love of her life, Dewey Papp. She is survived by her daughter Darlene Hubler and Darlene's two daughters Becky and Brandi of Oakhurst, CA; her brother Bill, and her four sisters Jean, Donna, Judy and Carolyn, all of Pennsylvania, and her "granddaughter" Alexandria Blanchard of Upland, along with many, many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. If big things come in small packages, then Karen was a perfect example of this phenomenon. She may have been small in stature, but she had a huge personality and a lot of heart. She was a spirited, feisty woman who was never afraid to say exactly what was on her mind. She was also a very patriotic individual who flew her American Flag with pride. She was an auxiliary member of both the VFW and the Eagles of Ontario. She joyfully gave volunteer hours. Karen has worked at the 7-11, the VFW, and Regal Motors of Ontario. She found her true calling when she began taking care of the homes and children of the local families. With boundless energy she cooked, cleaned, laundered, and got children off to and home from school. While working for the Blanchard's she not only took wonderful care of their home she made sure homework was done, and that chores were attended to, she also served up a delicious dinner every night. She was the best caretaker a family could ask for, and she was dearly loved by the whole family. Karen was an avid reader and she loved to do all kinds of puzzles: word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles alike. She never went anywhere without a word puzzle, a Pepsi, and a bite of something sweet. Confined to her home and in hospice care for the past six months, Karen enjoyed Country and Western music, movies and never missed a Sunday night episode of the Kardashians with Alexandria. She often held celebrations for birthdays or other events in her home with her close friends and neighbors. Her Spunky, one-of-a-kind personality will always be an inspiration to all who knew her and she will be missed by many close friends and family.

Our sweet Karen,
When we first met you I didn't know whether you were mean or just hiding inside that shell. I am thankful to find that you were the latter. We were constantly surprised by how you could make a sailor blush, and often did, with your floral language. And that made me love you all the more.
You would do anything for the Veterans of the post or the elks, and often gave so much of yourself to them that you had little left for yourself. We were so happy for you and Dewey when you found each other and we shared in your grief when you lost him. But now you are reunited yet again for eternity. I believe this is true.
Please forgive me for not being around those last few months. It was difficult to see you so frail and I am ashamed that I was not there for you.
I will always think of you when I hear "Harper Valley PTA," your karaoke theme song.
Thank you for being wonderful and for proving that first impressions are not always the rule. Your kind heart and edgy personality will be much missed. Love you.
Rosamaria
