Loren Russell Obituary

RUSSELL- Loren Hugh Russell, passed away on June 7, 2011, at Huntington Memorial Hospital. A California native, he was born in Riverside, April 5, 1925. In his youth he lived in Yorba Linda, Alhambra and San Gabriel. Loren graduated from El Monte High School in 1942 where he was student body president and met his future wife Martha. He received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated in 1946. After serving in the Navy, he attended Stanford University School of Law, where he received the Order of the Coif and graduated in 1952. He again served in the Navy during the Korean War. He joined the Pasadena Law Firm of Hahn and Hahn in 1954 where he became a partner and practiced for over 50 years until his retirement in 2004. Loren is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha, daughter Kathy Grupe of Arcadia, sons David of Ellicott City, Maryland, Robert of Oakland, Jeffrey of Sierra Madre, and five grandchildren: Allison Grupe, Adam, Stuart, Ashby and Charlie Russell. His family was his joy and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. In retirement, Loren still played racquetball, enjoyed lunches with the "alumni group" from Hahn and Hahn as well as frequent get-togethers with Naval Academy friends. He was loved, respected, and will be missed by many. At his request, no public service is planned. Those wishing to donate in his memory may donate to Disabled American Veterans (P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250), Pasadena Humane Society (361 S. Raymond Ave., Pasadena, CA 91105), or the Huntington Medical Research Institutes (734 Fairmount Ave., Pasadena, CA 91105).
