Louis Nota Obituary

NOTA-Louis Peter Nota, born to parents Teresa and Philip Nota on March 30, 1923 in Los Angeles, California, died on September 28, 2010, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. His friendliness, enthusiasm for life, and sense of humor remained until the end. A 60-year resident of Whittier, Louis is survived by his wife of 61 years Patricia, daughters Carole (Henry) Wadsworth, Camarillo, CA, Christine (Joe Brewer) Nota, Davis, CA, David (Lori) Nota, San Clemente, CA, and Paul (Paula Martinet) Nota, Eagle Rock, CA. He is also survived by grandchildren Sean Wadsworth, Briana (Tom) Eaton, Kami (Michael) Lawrence, Daniel Nota, Ben Brewer, and Alex Nota, great-grandchildren Caleb and Evangeline Eaton, nephew Dean (Linda Jo) Nota, and brother-in-law Joseph (Dawn) Aulenbrock. A private family service is planned. Louis was a loyal alumnus of Fremont High School and USC. As a child of the Depression, he didn't have much opportunity to travel but found his own way to satisfy a love of mountains and far-away places. As a young teen, he took trolleys to reach the Mount Wilson trailhead. He was still a teen when he drove his Model A with friends to Sequoia, the first of many Sierra adventures, and many more cross-country trailer trips with the whole family, and then with the grandchildren. Louis shared vivid stories of his Navy service during World War II in the south Pacific and came out with a strong aversion to waiting in any lines ever again. He worked for Los Angeles County for 36 years as a civil engineer, decried the overdevelopment of the southern California coastline, and carpooled before it was fashionable, always adhering to "Murphy's rules of carpooling". His occupation with the County led to a keen interest in flood control and weather. His children fondly remember piling into the station wagon to check on areas where flooding was likely during a rainstorm; his predictions seemed infallible! Given his unflagging interest in weather, it seemed appropriate that he died during record-setting heat. Louis was a family man whose actions spoke louder than words, always ready with whatever help was needed, a gentle joke, and sincere interest. He believed in and appreciated every one of us, and we are grateful for his unfailing love and vigilant protection. The family extends special thanks to caregivers Toni Lidtki of Visiting Angels and Celina Vasquez of Walnut Villa. Celina was a steady and caring support for Louis during his most difficult days, and we are grateful for her loving presence as he slipped away. The family requests that donations be made to Camarillo Hospice, 400 Rosewood Ave., Ste. 102, Camarillo, CA, 93010, in lieu of flowers.
