MARIE INEZ Obituary

Inez Storey passed away peacefully November 24th, 2010 in her home at the age of 92. She was born March 11, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked for Lockheed in 1940 where she met and married William "Bill" Storey in 1942. They moved to Sylmar in 1947 and built the home she still lived in. Inez was active in the early days of a new and growing Sylmar and never turned down an opportunity to help. She had many interests including photography and Spanish dancing to singing in the church choir. She was active with the Girl Scouts, Friends of the Library, the San Fernando Chapter 398 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Neighborhood Watch. Saturday nights she was at her grandson's football games and was more than once seen leaving the fraternity house by the back stairs. Her worst days were when her car was in the shop for repairs. Inez was preceded in death by her husband and sorely missed by her brother Ron Sneddon and her sister Carol Bean. She leaves two daughters, Teri Storey and Marci Bishop; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Bishop and Christopher Bishop. A celebration of Inez Storey's life will be held December 19, 2010, 1:00 p.m., at the Masonic Temple in San Fernando, 1112 N. Maclay St. A donation to the Shriners Hospital for Children in lieu of flowers was her wish.

My mother Jean Lockhart Thurman and Inez Storey were friends from childhood and remained fast friends until my mother's death in 1993. I know Inez's family will miss her sorely.

Our condolences to the Family and Friends of Inez Storey.

Inez Storey befriended and 'educated' me in the needs and hopes of the Sylmar community when I worked with her in developing the Library Friends. She knew everyone in Sylmar, and everyone knew her. She and Bill, (her husband) constantly helped the Library as the community grew. They brought many valuable Library Patrons to the Sylmar Branch, as well as to the San Fernando Library and Friends. One of these outstanding people was Arthur Blackie, who built a shed for the Friends to store books to be 'sold' at fund-raising book sales to secure needed Library items. Besides purchasing expensive reference books, they raised money for a steel shed to aid in the storage of 'sale' books which a very supportive Sylmar residents donated. This wonderful family led the way in making Sylmar the great place that it is today.
