Nancy Wilder Obituary

WILDER-Nancy Alpine Wilder, passed away on March 3, 2004 in Pasadena. She was born in Los Angeles on October 13, 1922. At an early age she moved with her parents, John and Janet, from Hancock Park to San Marino, where she lived for mo st of the rest of her life. With her brothers, John and Peter, she was a student at Stoneman and Huntington Schools in San Marino, and she graduated from South Pasadena-San Marino High School in 1940. Nancy attended Beloit College in Wisconsin, where she affiliated with Pi Beta Phi. Nancy left college during WWII to join the Navy, serving as a WAVE. She later met Henry B. "Hank" Wilder, a naval officer. They married in 1950. For more than four decades Nancy and Hank were popular residents of Afton Road in S an Marino, where they raised their children, John and Ann. Nancy was a life-long member of Church of Our Saviour. She was also active in the Junior Philharmonic Society, the Assistance League, the Pasadena Crown Guild (later the National Charity League), the P.T.A., and the San Marino Women's Club. Nancy worked at The Athenaeum at Caltech. After retirement she volunteered many hours at the Huntington Library and Art Gallery Information Booth. Nancy cherished her family, her friends and her pets. She also en joyed tennis in Lacy Park and several bridge groups. For the past few years Nancy had lived at the Kensington Epsicopal Home in Alhambra. Nancy is survived by her brother, Peter, and his wife, Vonnie; her son, John and his wife, Julie; her daughter, Ann Coultrop; and her grandsons, Danny and Chris; several nieces and nephews, and their children. so sorry to hear of your mothers death. she was a good friend to my mom for so many years. i hope that our parents are all together somewhere and sharing memories. my thoughts are with you.
