passed away peacefully on September 13, 2010. Polly was born on January 14, 1925 in Mercersburg, PA to the late George and Lizzie Meyer, the fourth of six children. She taught elementary school in Upland from 1958 until she retired in 1988. Teaching was her precious and valued career, but her greatest love and devotion was to her family. She leaves behind three daughters: Pam (Larry) Abrams, Lois Kern (Mike Woodward), Peggy (Damon) Petta, five grandchildren: Paula (Aaron) VanBeurden, Gary Abrams, Damon (Jennifer) Petta, Dominic Petta, Donovan Petta, and three great grandchildren: Spencer, Molly, and Sarah VanBeurden. Others left to honor her memory include her brother, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on September 25, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Upland Brethren in Christ Church, 845 W. Arrow Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pacific Lifeline of Upland, www.pacific-lifeline.org.

I taught with Polly at Cabrillo Elementary when I was just starting my career in teaching. She was a very kind and supportive co-worker.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
I was a student at Foothill Knolls many years ago and remember Mrs. Kern. I was not in her class but I remember her and always had good memories of her gentle and Godly spirit. I know she will be missed by many.

My thoughts and prayers are with Pam, Lois, Peggy, and the whole family. Wish I could be there to honor Polly. There are so many memories I have of Polly and the family during my childhood. She was a wonderful person who held true to herself.
