Peter Hidas Obituary

HIDAS-Peter Edmund Hidas, February 28, 1948 - September 20, 2010 Extraordinary, everyday kindness and generosity were the hallmarks by which Pete Hidas led his too-short but full life that ended at his beloved Sierra Madre home in the company of his family. Pete was born in Wasserburg, Germany, the second of six children raised by Edmund and Susan Hidas after their emigration from their native Budapest, Hungary. He was four when the family continued their western migration, first to New Jersey and finally to Los Angeles in 1956. A graduate of Eagle Rock High School and Cal State Los Angeles, Pete enjoyed a nearly 40-year career with the Pasadena accounting firm Martin Werbelow, LLP. He was married 41 years to Bonny (Weber), with whom he devoted himself to raising daughter Laura and son Dean. Laura and husband Noah gifted him with his first grandchild, Neal, last year. Many nieces and nephews from the Hidas and Weber families also mourn his passing, as do his surviving sisters Edie, Bonnie, Chris and Lisa, and brother Andrew. Pete's most intense passions beyond his family were bike riding and U.S. and European history. Every spring found him providing wise instruction and counsel as a coach for girls' softball teams in Sierra Madre. He was also a great high jumper (6'6"!) and avid basketball and softball player all his life. Pete always extended tremendous, sincere respect to all who came across his path. Everyone who knew him will continue to be enriched by the goodness he projected. In lieu of flowers, contributions invited to the USC Memory and Aging Center (adrc.usc.edu/giving/) or the CJD Foundation (cjdfoundation.org/ donations.html).

Bonnie and family:
I just heard about Pete's passing today and was very saddened to hear. To me, Pete was one of the nicest human beings at Eagle Rock High School and I will always remember him.

Bonnie and family,
Bob and I are so sorry to hear of Pete's passing. I have very good memories of Pete, whether in the Mt Wilson Trail Run, dinner at your house, his bike ride that included a visit to our home in San Juan with salmon on the grill, reading his journals while he was out on his major bike rides, as well as working with him at MW&Co. I always considered him a friend. Our condolences are with you and your family.

Bonnie & Family,
Peter was our accountant for over 35 years, the best at everything he did.
We had a visit from Pete at our home
in March. He was riding his motorcycle
and loving it. We have the best memories of him. We will miss him....
