Richard BATTIN Obituary

Dick was born in Ashland, Kansas on Dec 20, the second child of Glen and Pearl Battin. Hespent his early years in Kansas and Texas, graduating from Texas A&M with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He later earned a MS in Engineering from U.C.L.A. He entered the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1952, and met his wife, Elizabeth (Libby) Johnston, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were married 51 years. Dick joined Hughes Aircraft Company in 1953, retiring in 1989. A family man, he was active in Indian Guides and Boy Scouts, and helped his son to attain Eagle Scout . He planned memorable family vacations every year and encouraged his children to achieve their goals. Dick and Libby were exceptional grandparents and held "Battin Camps" every summer where they would treat their 5 grandchildren to a week-long amusement park, museum, and camp-out extravaganza. Together, Dick and Libby shared many world travels with friends and family. Dick enjoyed hiking with the OTP hikers, tennis, and being with friends and family. His enthusiasm was contagious, his practical jokes legend and his smile will be sorely missed. Dick is survived by his three children: Susan, Amy (husband John), Larry; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Thursday, 11-4-10, at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, 5700 Rudnick Ave, Woodland Hills, CA 91367.
