RICHARD RILEY Obituary

of Upland died on November 22, 2010 at Villa Mesa Care Center in Upland. He was born in Council Hill, Oklahoma and was a resident here for 57 years. Mr. Riley had been an educator in the Upland School District for 33 years before his retirement in 1986. After graduating from Kansas University and moving here from Lawrence, Kansas, Mr. Riley first began as a teacher at Upland Junior High in 1953. He then went on to be principal of many schools in the Upland District including Upland, Cabrillo, Valencia, and Sierra Vista Elementary Schools as well as Pioneer Junior High School. In his leisure time Mr. Riley enjoyed fishing, traveling, going out to eat and puttering around in his sons cabinet shop. He had been a long time member of the Upland Rotary Club and was a current member of Sierra Vista Baptist Church in Alta Loma. A World War II Veteran, Mr. Riley was a sergeant in the army stationed near Munich, Germany at the end of the war. Mr. Riley was preceded in death by his beloved wife Georgia who died on November 8, 1997. They first met while attending Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma and were married after he returned from military service in 1947. Mr. Riley is survived by two sons, Randall Riley of Dana Point and Russell Riley of Maui, and a daughter, Brenda Riley of Upland. A third son, Robert, passed away in 1990. He has 3 grandchildren and one great grandson. According to his wishes, a graveside service will be held on Wednesday December 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM in Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 West G Street, Ontario CA 91762. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sierra Vista Baptist Church, 7192 Jasper St., Alta Loma, CA 91701. Bellevue Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
