Robert Myles Crawford M.D. Obituary
Robert Myles Crawford, M.D. August 7, 1923 - April 19, 2011 Robert Myles Crawford was born in Pocatello, Idaho August 7, 1923 to Hazel and George Crawford. The family of three boys, Donald, James and Robert moved to Long Beach in 1930 when George was offered a position as a school principal. After graduating from Wilson High School, Bob attended Long Beach City College and then went on to the University of Southern California for his medical studies. He was inducted into the Army in 1941, but placed on active reserve status while in medical school. Following completion of his medical training, he honored his commitment to the military, and was discharged in 1954 from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of captain. He returned to Long Beach and joined his brother, Dr. Donald Crawford, in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology. Robert was board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and in abdominal surgery. Dr. Don and Dr. Bob, as they were affectionately known by their patients, worked together until the death of Dr. Don in 1974. Dr. Bob continued the practice for another 25 years, making grandmothers of the many patients who loved him. Dr. Bob retired in 1989 to six acres near Sun City, California where he spent his years planting trees and traveling the U.S. and western Canada in his converted bus. Robert is survived by Sandra, his wife of 30 years; two daughters, Claudia Myles and Shelley Woodard; a son, Dr. Robert R. Crawford (Dalika); and a blended family of two stepsons; a stepdaughter; twelve grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Dr. Crawford died as he had lived, with grace and quiet dignity, napping in his favorite lounge chair. He was blessed with good health and a keen mind until God called him home. He was buried with full military honors at Riverside National Cemetery on April 27, 2011. Please sign the guestbook for Robert at www.presstelegram.com/obits.
