Russell Rogers Mohn
June 23, 1916 - April 1, 2013

Russell Rogers Mohn, 96, died Monday, April 1, 2013, in Pasadena.
Russ was born June 23, 1916, in Pasadena to Russell Reitzel and Ada Anna (Rogers) Mohn. He was raised in Pasadena and graduated from Pasadena Junior College. He earned a BA from the University of California at Berkeley in 1938 and a Master in Education degree from the same university in 1946.
He married Lois Mary Stevens in Holliston Methodist Church in Pasadena on August 25, 1939. Their two children, Kari and Paul, were born in Riverside. The family moved to Pasadena in 1947 and Russ joined the faculty of Pasadena City College. He was the counselor in Engineering and Technology and delighted in sponsoring the Highlanders, the college's hiking club. He served with the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team.
Following his first wife's death in 1969, he married Jane Hutton Fulton. Russ, Lois and Jane had all been in the same Sunday School class at St. James United Methodist Church in Pasadena. Russ and Jane were married April 16, 1970, in that same church.
Russ retired in 1971 and he and Jane moved to Paradise, California, where they were active in the Paradise United Methodist Church. Russ had a fine tenor voice and sang in the church choir. Russ and Jane traveled extensively all over the world and enjoyed their Airstream trailer. They were part of the Northern California unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club. Jane died in 2009.
As Russ neared the end of his life, he wanted to return to "where I began." He returned to Pasadena in October of last year and died in the hospital in which he was born.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Marilyn "Kari" Mohn of Kenai, Alaska; his son, Paul Gilbert "Stormy" Mohn of Myrtle Point, Oregon; his step-son, Bruce Edward Fulton (Charlotte) of Athens, Alabama; two grandsons, Francis Paul Hanson (Sarah) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Duke Wright Keith Hanson (Sherril) of Boulder, Colorado; and four great-grandchildren, Hugh William Hanson and Hilary Abigail Hanson of Anchorage and Connor Wright Hanson and Cameron John Hanson of Boulder.
A service celebrating Russ's life will be Friday, April 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the St. James United Methodist Church, 2033 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena. Russ's all-time favorite dessert, chocolate ice cream will be served. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, 780 East Altadena Drive, Altadena, CA 91001 or to St. James UMC, 2033 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91104.
