Ruth Ann Hannefield
Ruth Ann Hannefield, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2014, six months after being diagnosed with cancer.
Ruth was born on February 26, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN, the ninth of ten children. She moved to Southern California at the age of 19, eventually settling in Long Beach and marrying James Hannefield in 1966. Their only child, a daughter named Jaime, was born in 1976. The family moved to Mission Viejo in 1978. Ruth worked as a secretary and office manager in education settings for 30 years, including 21 years at R. H. Dana Elementary School in Dana Point. Ruth and Jim moved to the East San Francisco Bay Area city of Pleasant Hill in 2012 to be near their daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons.
Throughout her life and during her brief illness, Ruth was surrounded by family and friends, who were drawn in by her compassionate nature and interest in others. She was an avid reader and traveler, and loved dogs. Ruth's favorite role in her rich life may have been that of grandmother-she doted on her grandsons, Gram and Griffin.
Though we lost her too soon, Ruth will live on in the hearts and minds of the many whose lives she touched and make us better people. Ruth is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, James Hannefield, her daughter Jaime Thomas, her grandsons Gram and Griffin Thomas, and her siblings Doris Skow, Mary Ann Pence, Helen Ehrich, Richard Mihm, and Barbara Deitch. Ruth's life will be celebrated in a ceremony at 9:00 am on Saturday, April 5 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630.
