SCOTT CONNELL

On October 11th, 2010 Mr. Scott Connell went home to be with the Lord, his Savior after a courageous struggle with Leukemia. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Graham. Scott was the Son of Matthew and Virginia Connell born in West Frankfort, Ill. In 1942. At the time of his passing he was 68 years old. Scott's career included work at 3 phone companies starting in 1961 as a supply clerk for Illinois Bell in the town of Joliet. He worked at several positions, and ultimately achieved management roles. In Chicago, he loved his sales teaching position and develop many programs, he was "the Consummate Salesman". In 1979 Scott transferred to AT&T's "Long Lines" division in LA and relocated the family from St. Charles, Ill., to Claremont, Ca. Here in LA he was offered several large sales opportunities, which he tackled passionately. In 1992 he transferred to Lucent from which he ultimately retired in 1996. In his personal time he enjoyed spending time with family, travel, restoration of classic Ford Mustangs, study of World History and War, the movies, home projects & the joy of Christmas with family and giving! After 2 restful retirement years, a call for a person to direct a Men's ministry provided a new opportunity for Scott to reinvent and transfer his innate passions to serve the Lord. This position evolved into a full time Pastoral Care position with 50+ members of Pomona First Baptist Church. For 10 years he served the Lord, encouraged others, taught and motivated people to live as instruments for God. A beloved husband, father and grandfather leaves behind wife of 46 years Kathy (Hoyt), son Joel of Upland, Ca., son Shawn the husband to Erica (Salvat), grand- children Liam, and Maggie of Ventura, daughter Carrie (Connell) the wife of Rob Lawrence, and grandson Benjamin of Claremont. He will be terribly missed by everyone, until we see him again in the presence of God, in eternity. A memorial service will be held at Pomona First Baptist Church, 601 N. Garey St., Pomona, on Saturday, October 16, at 11:00 am.
