SHAYLEEN BOLKE Obituary

passed away in her husband's arms on Dec. 19, 2010, after battling breast cancer for over five years. Shayleen had just celebrated her 39th birthday. She was born in Covina, CA. She was a graduate of San Dimas High School, and continued her education at CSUSB, where she received her degree and later, her teaching credential. She was a devoted wife and mother, and a beloved elementary school teacher at CP Lightfoot Elementary School in Rancho Cucamonga. Shayleen fought a ferocious battle with cancer, with dignity and determination to the very end. Her world revolved around her beautiful daughter, Ashlynn. Shayleen is survived by her husband, Darryl; her 8 year old daughter, Ashlynn; her parents, Jim and Diana Paterson; her mother, Sharon Praeger; as well as her brothers, Ron and Steve; and step sister, Amanda. Shay was accompanied to heaven by her dog, Zoee, who also lost her battle with cancer this week. The family wishes to thank the heroic efforts of the Dr. Linda Bosserman and her incredible staff at Wilshire Oncology, who became like a second family over the many years of treatment. We also appreciate the nurses and staff of Visiting Nurse of Inland Empire for their hospice care in her final weeks. Any donations can be made to Shayleen's favorite charities, the West End Animal Shelter, any of the well known Breast Cancer foundations, and Lance Armstrong's Livestrong Foundation. Services will be private, and a memorial event will be planned for the future.

Oh, Shay, how we loved you. Andy is trying to reach your daughter to give her many photos of you from the past so that she can know what you looked like in your high school years. You were so much a part of our family and we have so many wonderful memories of you joining us on our adventures. You are greatly missed.

All my memories of you are so fresh. All the time you spent on vacations with our family. Your reaction to the wild boars on Catalina during camping trips. The first time you washed your hair in the ice water at Plaskett Creek. You were a wonderful addition to our family. Our Christmas shopping/lunches - When someone you love becomes a memory the memory becomes a treasure - you will always be a treasure to me.
