Tyler Joseph Whitfill
age 20, of Lakewood, California, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 in a motorcycle accident. He was born on September 16, 1993 in Lakewood, California.
Tyler was the second of three children. He attended Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach CA and graduated in 2011 as the captain of the wrestling team. He served in the United States Marine Corps for about 3 years and earned the rank of Lance Corporal. He graduated Marine Corps Basic training on October 2011, completed School of Infantry training on January 2012, and was given orders to join 2nd Battalion 7th Marine Regiment, Golf Company as an Infantry Assaultman. He was deployed to Afghanistan on November 9th, 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and returned April 1st, 2013. He was awarded the following ribbons/medals: combat action ribbon, national defense medal, Afghanistan campaign medal, GWOT medal, sea service ribbon, and the NATO medal.
Tyler will be remembered by everyone he knew. He is survived by his mother Linda Noel, older brother Tanner Whitfill and younger sister Amber Whitfill. He was also survived by his grandparents Jim and Joanne Noel, great aunt Mary Pieper, cousins and the rest of his extended family. He will be greatly missed.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 6-8pm. A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 1:00pm, both at All Souls Mortuary, 4400 Cherry Ave. Long Beach, CA 90807. The celebration of life will follow immediately after the prayer service at The American Legion in Long Beach.
