Walter Norton Obituary

NORTON-Walter Wesley Norton Jr. Passed away at home on October 28, 2010, in Pasadena. He was 55. Walt was born March 23, 1955, in Los Angeles and attended Carver Elementary School and Huntington Middle School. After graduating from San Marino High School in 1973, he earned a degree in economics from UC Santa Barbara. He married Emelley Carney in 1984, and they made their home in Pasadena. Walt worked as the president of Norton Electric Wholesale in Los Angeles. His passions included rock and ice climbing, river rafting and mountain biking. He enjoyed spending time hunting at the family cabin as well as coaching youth soccer. His proudest accomplishments included organizing and completing a two-month expedition through the Sierra Nevadas in 1976 and reaching the summit of Mt. McKinley in 2003. Above all, he lived for his family as a loving husband and proud father.In addition to his wife, Walt is survived by his father, Walter Sr.; his daughter, Samantha; his brother, Scott; his sister, Elizabeth Stanton, and her husband, Gerard, and many loving nieces and nephews. A celebration of Walt's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, Nov. 6, at St. Edmund's Episcopal Church, 1175 S. San Gabriel Blvd., San Marino, CA 91108. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Walter Norton, Jr. Memorial Fund at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1441 Eastlake Ave., Room 8302, Los Angeles, CA 90033.
