Ralph L Hainsworth
Of Fontana, California, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital following a short battle with pneumonia. He was 90 years old.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 55 years, Jean (Wyant) Hainsworth, and a grandson, Dell ("lil Dell") Hainsworth. He leaves his daughter, Lynn (Hainsworth) Jaquez; sons Ralph L. ("Skip") Hainsworth and his wife Barbara; Lon R. ("Lonnie") Hainsworth and his wife Terry; Dell R. Hainsworth and his wife, Becky; and Craig Hainsworth and Cheryl. In addition, Ralph leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Born in Tacoma, Washington, November 30, 1922, to Cecil and Florence Hainsworth, Ralph was the oldest of eight children. He went to school in Boulder City, Nevada, and worked in the Boulder Dam. Ralph was most proud of his family and his military service.
Ralph served in
World War II
as a motorcycle messenger and a combat infantryman, Tec 5. He was in the European theater, serving in France, and was in the second wave to reach Utah Beach during the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944. During his war years, Ralph received many decorations and citations, including: American Theatre of Operation Service Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, two
s, and the Victory Medal.
Ralph met his beautiful wife, Jean Hazel Wyant, in Fontana in 1946, and they were married later that same year. Together they raised 5 children.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Ralph instilled in his family a deep love and appreciation for nature and the outdoors. He was proud that he was able to teach his children and many others to hunt and fish.
At this time, the Hainsworth family would like to thank the residents and staff at Emeritus Victorian Court for their kindness during the past two years of Ralph's residency.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Riverside National Cemetery where he will be interred next to his wife, Jean. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the
